Protecting Our Most Precious Resource: Fossil Fuel vs. Clean Water

Monday, September 19th
5:30 - 8:30 PM
Trinity Center for Urban Life
22nd & Spruce Streets
Philadelphia, PA

Keynote Speaker, Wenonah Hauter, Founder and Executive Director of Food & Water Watch

Local activist, Maya K. van Rossum, Leader of the Delaware Riverkeeper Network

Wenonah Hauter is the founder and Executive Director of Food & Water Watch. She has worked extensively on food, water, energy and environmental issues at the national, state and local level. Her new book, Frackopoly: The Battle for the Future of Energy and the Environment, shines a fresh light on the influence the oil and gas industry has in politics today and chronicles the political power generated by an exciting grassroots movement that is fighting to ban fracking, keep fossil fuels in the ground and help take back our democracy.

After discussing Frackopoly, Wenonah will be joined by local activist, Maya K. van Rossum, to discuss the local fight against fossil fuel expansion and its impact on Philadelphia’s water.

Maya K. van Rossum has served as the Delaware Riverkeeper and leader for the Delaware Riverkeeper Network since 1994. The role of the Delaware Riverkeeper is to give the Delaware River, and the communities that depend upon it and appreciate it, a voice at every decision making table. The Delaware Riverkeeper Network is the only citizen action organization that works the entire length and breadth of the Delaware River and its watershed, speaking and working for both its protection and its restoration.
